Let your project be one of measurable success with our bespoke approach to project social impact, with every project delivering a lasting, positive legacy on your community and the environment.
Each project is assigned a dedicated social value manager, based within your local area, who works with you to understand your specific focus areas. We then implement project specific social value plans with clear project targets, measured using National TOMs proxies.
Addressing the needs of your local area based around four key objectives to:
- Promoting local skills and employment
- Supporting the growth of responsible regional businesses
- Helping create healthier, safer and more resilient communities
- Decarbonising and safeguarding our world
Promoting local skills & employment
Working with schools, colleges and universities, local community organisations, training providers, charities and the DWP. Engaging through careers talks, careers fairs, speed networking, mentoring, interview practice and CV advice.
Our ‘Professional Roles in Construction’ 2 hour sessions comprising careers talks and a STEM team-building activity have been popular with schools and alternative education providers.
Our ‘Personal Branding and Soft Skills’ workshop helps people identify skills and qualities they have which are attractive to employers, a key part of removing barriers to employment.
Supporting growth of responsible regional businesses
Providing local businesses with the skills to compete, by procuring goods and services locally, while following our fair
payment practices.
We share our knowledge and expertise through events for our supply chain, including bespoke advice sessions and blogs on how to win work.
We are helping VCSEs and MSMEs to grow by gradually increasing the orders we place with them, and sharing our knowledge and expertise with technical advice sessions.
Promoting local skills & employment
We employ local people to work on projects close to their home. Offering a variety of employment taster days, work experience and placement opportunities in our offices and on-site. Participants learn about the wide range of careers available in construction. These placements are so successful that many who undertake them go on to become permanent employees.
Partnering with local colleges we offer work experience placements for T-level students. We are committed to upskilling our workforce by supporting them to take professional qualifications such as RICS and CIOB, and apprenticeships up to Level 6 in management and leadership.
Helping create healthier, safer & more resilient communities
We help create healthier, safer and more resilient communities through building stronger and deeper relationships with our local communities, the voluntary and social enterprise sectors and by improving the well-being and mental health of our employees and supply chain partners.
Our Volunteer Policy gives our people the opportunity to spend two days every year helping out in the community. We invite our supply chain partners and project stakeholders to join us.
Volunteering helps everyone to develop new relationships, skills and supports our Teamship philosophy.
Decarbonising & safeguarding our world
We promote sustainable procurement, ensuring the efficient use of resources to manage and reduce our impact on the environment, reducing our carbon emissions and promoting circular economy solutions.
All work is completed in-line with our ISO50001 Energy Management and ISO14001 Environmental Management accredited systems. We have in place a carbon reduction plan and will achieve Net Zero for Scope 1 and 2 by 2039 and Net Zero across Scope 3 by 2050.
We work with clients to develop a logical road map to achieve Net Zero schemes, whilst minimising natural resource use and waste, enhancing biodiversity, and obtaining benchmark certifications.
Achieving Impact
We are members of the Chesterfield Property and Construction Group which brings together the region’s property sector and Chesterfield Borough Council to shape and drive forward collaboration, investment, sustainability and skills within Chesterfield.
With group members we developed the Apprentice Town Roadshow. Piloted at Parkside Community School this included speed networking sessions to learn about careers in construction and a ‘Design a Building’ event.
The events had a clear impact on raising the interest in construction-related careers from 29% to 44% amongst attendees. Students interested in work experience rose from 12 to 25, with the ratio of male:female changing from 3:1 to 3:2.
