In order to cope with Staffordshire’s expanding population, Stepnell were contracted to build the Lichfield and District Crematorium.

Set in 10 acres of former agricultural land, the 280m2 crematorium boasts generous offices, chapel and crematory, waiting room, toilets and memorial garden with arboretum.

The building is of timber frame construction with a mixture of brick and cedar cladding. The chapel and crematory utilises a Glulam portal frame and the roof is timber trussed and tiled. Additionally, our in house joinery department provided the high quality oak joinery including doors and skirting. Due to it’s location, a borehole was sunk on site to provide water for the development.

Externally, there is extensive high quality landscaping and planting including three ponds.

This was a full turnkey project, with the cremator, the FF&E, the audio visual system and external planting being included in the package of works.
