Construction work under way by Stepnell on major new store for Cheltenham Shopping Centre

Stepnell has just begun work on a redevelopment programme which will create a major new store for Cheltenham’s Regent Arcade Shopping Centre.

Canada Life, which owns the centre, has appointed Stepnell for a 10 month scheme, designed by architects Bell Associates, which will create a single high quality, two storey retail store in a prime position next to the centre entrance in the High Street. The new store will replace a number of existing shop units whose occupiers have already relocated to units elsewhere in the centre. Norman Rourke Pryme are the construction consultants for the project which will be delivered by Stepnell’s West Midlands construction team.

The scheme is the latest phase in Canada Life’s redevelopment of the Regent Arcade complex, which opened in 1985 and now has more than 60 stores.  Two large retail units created in an earlier phase of the programme brought high street fashion brands H & M and River Island to the centre with the new retail unit also set to be occupied by a big-name retailer.

Stepnell director Richard Wakeford says: “We’re delighted to have been chosen by Canada Life to undertake this important project for the Regent Arcade, creating a stylish flagship store which will give consumers a fantastic shopping experience and continue to attract even more customers from across the region to this exciting and vibrant retail destination in the heart of Cheltenham.”
