Work begins on brand-new Leicester builders’ merchants

Stepnell has just started work on the new Leicester branch of Selco Builders Warehouse.

Designed by Market Harborough-based architects Corporate Architecture, the builders’ merchants store is under construction at Parker Drive, on the former Forest Park Business Centre site.

Expected to create 40 full-time jobs when it opens, the store will replace a now-demolished factory building which had lain empty for more than a decade.

The single-storey, 3,252 sq m steel-framed building, under construction by Stepnell for site owners Trafalgar Global Limited, is scheduled to be completed this October. The employer’s agent for the scheme is Leicester-based Summers Inman LLP.

Catering for trade customers across Leicestershire, the new Selco branch will include a show room and hire store, concrete HGV yard and new car park.

Our Nottingham operations and commercial manager Thomas Sewell says: “We’re very excited to be helping create these purpose-built premises for Selco in Leicester. The scheme will create a spacious and modern builders’ merchants store in this easily accessible location to the north of the city centre.”

The scheme is one of a number of significant recent business gains for Stepnell in the Leicester area, including a multimillion pound contract for Zone to create high-quality new student accommodation at West Walk in Leicester city centre. This spring, Stepnell also completed a brand-new national headquarters at Grove Park, Enderby, Leicester for My Home Move, the UK’s leading provider of mover conveyancing services.
