Stepnell hands over
Hinckley Hub

Rugby-based construction company Stepnell has completed work on the Hinckley Hub – a 4,200m² development housing Hinckley’s new council offices.

The building, on the corner of Hawley Road and Rugby Road, is the new home for Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council. Leicestershire County Council will also take space in the building while Hinckley’s Job Centre Plus will move into the Hub development later this year.

BREEAM ‘Excellent’

Stepnell was appointed by the Council’s development partners MRP and landlords Aviva to take over construction of the project last December – completing it to a tight timescale – after the previous contractor, Hallam Contracts, went into administration. Stepnell has also taken on three former Hallam management staff together with a number of their skilled operatives.

The completed building has a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating and has been constructed using A rated materials together with large areas of photovoltaic panels which maximise energy efficiency. MRP produced the concept design for the building with Maber architecture acting as design-and-build architects. It provides open-plan shared office space and a bespoke council chamber and public gallery with views across Hinckley.

Stepnell managing director Mark Wakeford says:

“I am proud of the way our team stepped in at short notice to complete this modern new building to a high standard whilst meeting a very tight schedule. It’s a great testament to the professionalism and hard work of everyone involved.”
