Established in the 1870s, the company is a family-owned business which operates through a network of regional offices across central and southern England. Stepnell is part of the Stepnell group of companies.

One of Stepnell’s key strengths is its ability to provide a complete construction and engineering service including technical consultancy, from within the company. Alongside traditional contracting, design and build, framework and partnering projects, Stepnell is involved with a wide range of specialist developments and in PFI/PPP contracts. Example PFI schemes are Whitecross High School and Staffordshire Fire Stations. Whitecross High School was built under a PFI project and is being managed for 25 years by Stepnell.
